Shopee Malaysia is part of the Shopee platform, owned by the Singapore-based tech behemoth Sea Group. As of 2021, Shopee is considered the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia with 343 million monthly visitors. 

Your role

The Apprentice Program is an internship program designed for second and penultimate-year students, to hone their professional skills and develop them into young leaders. Get ready to make a difference in the e-commerce and digital finance industry, dive head-first into participating in end-to-end processes in large-scale projects, and launch integral initiatives.

The Apprentice Program will place you into one of our functions* below, but not limited to:

• Business Development & Partnerships
  • Be involved in pursuing strategic opportunities by developing relationships and expanding partnerships.
• Business Intelligence
  • Build Shopee's data platforms and conduct data analysis to solve business-related issues.
• Marketing
  • Conceptualize and implement go-to-market activities to achieve increased usage and visibility.
• Operations
  • Work on the end-to-end buying process, starting from the search for a product on the Shopee platform, to the moment the buyer receives the product.

Each office will have different functions available, hence this list is not exhaustive.

Training & development

In this initiative, you will enhance your abilities and acquire pertinent and beneficial professional competencies via organized instructional courses and experiential learning. A mentor will be assigned to you, providing direction throughout the program.

Career progression

There is no mention of whether interns will be offered full-time employment after finishing the internship program. However, it's common that top interns will be prioritized for future hiring in the company. In addition, having an internship in a tech-based company as big as Shopee certainly will add significant value to your CV, especially if you want to pursue a career in the e-commerce industry or another technology-based company.

Work-life balance

The internship period and duration varies across Shopee's offices, ranging from 8 to 12 weeks. You will need to be able to commit full-time (5 days a week) for the whole duration. The office hours start at 9:30 AM and end at 6:30 PM, from Monday to Friday. Please refer to each office’s application for more details.

About you

• University student pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in any discipline at a recognized university
• Self-starter who is eager to learn and possesses a can-do attitude
• A team player with good interpersonal and strong communication skills
• Effective problem solver who can adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic environment

For the Apprentice Program at the Malaysia Office, the timeline is January to March and July to September.

The selection progress for this program will be as follows:

• Round 1 - Online Assessments
  • You will be invited to take an online assessment focusing on GMAT Data Sufficiency, Numerical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning.
• Round 2 - HR Interview
  • You will be invited to a 1:1 competency-based interview with our recruiter, where we will assess your motivations and culture fit.
• Round 3 - Interview with Business Manager
  • You will be invited to an interview with our business manager, where we will assess your problem-solving skills and business acumen.
• Round 4 - Interview with Team Leader
  • In the final round, you will be invited to a 1:1 interview with a team leader.
