Career development At BAT by British American Tobacco Malaysia

Team Prosple

Our leadership teams the world over demonstrate our commitment to promoting and developing the very best people, wherever they are from.

We offer very competitive rewards for performance, invest extensively in training and development, and offer really international career options, as you'd expect from a leading global organisation.

Our global talent strategy aspires to build a leadership legacy. To help our people reach their full potential, we focus on driving high performance and developing leadership capabilities. We accomplish this by giving relevant work experiences, opportunities to learn from others, and a comprehensive learning and development portfolio.

We place a high value on developing a coaching culture because we believe that training and development should occur as near to the job as feasible. Coaching, we believe, is also the best approach to grow leaders at all levels, share information, and create better business solutions.

Global graduate initiatives

Our one-year Global Graduate Program provides graduates with a full-time job right away and the potential to build an instant impression on our company.

The program provides world-class development and training to help create business knowledge and aid functional development, with the goal of becoming a manager by the end of the first year.

The BAT Global Graduate Academy, for example, is a two-week intensive programme in London that focuses on accelerating the development of commercial leadership in our next generation of leaders. Working with colleagues from throughout our worldwide business provides international exposure as well.

In 2018, we held the Group’s first global graduate competition – Battle of Minds – which saw people compete to win internships at BAT and received a global social media reach of 35 million people.

We've sponsored a lot of events since then to find talent, encourage creativity, and help our employees reach their full potential. Our 2020 Grad Academy was effectively converted to a virtual environment in response to global events. Over the course of three weeks, 239 graduates from 51 countries were challenged with new business concepts, redesigned leadership modules, and thrilling interactive sessions as part of our Global Graduate Program.

Performance management

Our performance management system will benefit employees by tracking their performance against individual goals along with their contribution to the Group's values, strategy, and ambitions during regular performance reviews.

It inspires employees and managers to think about performance management throughout the year, not only at the start and end of the annual cycle. Using an organized and logical approach to objective setting and assessment helps differentiate more clearly between those who are falling short, those who are meeting their goals and those whose performance is genuinely outstanding.
